MSC in Health and Care Management (Top-Up)

The MSc in Health and Care Management (Top-Up) is designed for professionals and graduates who wish to advance their knowledge and leadership capabilities within the health and social care sector. The programme focuses on developing strategic thinking, effective decision-making, and advanced management skills required to operate successfully in today’s complex and evolving health and care environments.

Through a practical and applied learning approach, students will enhance their understanding of contemporary health and care management issues, improve their ability to evaluate service delivery, and develop solutions that support quality improvement and organisational effectiveness. This Top Up programme aims to provide students with the opportunity to achieve a Master’s degree award in Health and Care Management through the development of an individual piece of work that demonstrates abilities in academic study, evidence-based practice, and research skills.

It allows students to apply concepts learned in previous postgraduate-level study to enhance, improve, or transform services in the health and social care sector. The type of project is flexible (e.g., Research Study, Service Improvement Plan, Leadership Case Study, Service Evaluation) and is developed through discussions between the student and their supervisor.

To be awarded the Master’s degree, students must complete the full 60 credits at Level 7.

  • Master’s Project (60 Credits)

Module Overview: Master’s ProjectThis single module requires students to independently scope, plan, and execute a project related to an organisational issue within the health and/or social care sector. It involves a supervisor-approved research proposal and ethics application, culminating in a written project of a maximum of 15,000 words.

  • Academic Qualification: 120 credits at postgraduate level in a relevant discipline(s) OR Senior Leader Apprenticeship, Level 7, UK IfATE ST0480.
  • English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element); or TOEFL iBT 90; or equivalent. Alternatively, evidence of previous study in English can be accepted.
